1. Who we are and what this covers
Octocarbon ("we", "us") provides Minecraft: Java Edition game servers, a dashboard to run them, a visual editor for challenges, a library of published challenges and related services through octocarbon.com and app.octocarbon.com (together, the "service"). These terms apply to everyone who creates an account or uses the service. By creating an account you accept them.
2. Your account
- You must be at least 13 years old, or the age at which you may agree to online services where you live if that is higher, to create an account. If you are under 18, a parent or guardian must agree to these terms for you.
- Give a working email address and verify it; receipts and notices about your servers go there. Keep your password to yourself; you are responsible for what happens under your account.
- One person, one account. Accounts created to work around the creator credit rules or a suspension may be closed.
3. Servers
- Every server has the same size: 4 GB of memory, 2 CPU cores, 10 GB of disk and up to 10 players. Your plan says how many you may keep at once, running or stopped.
- You create a server by accepting the Minecraft EULA for it. You are the server's operator: who joins, what they do there and what the server is used for are your responsibility.
- A server with nobody online for an hour is stopped automatically. Its world is kept and it can be started again from the dashboard.
- We may restart, move or briefly stop a server for maintenance, security or capacity reasons. We try to do so when it is empty and we tell you on the server's page when we can.
- Minecraft is Mojang's product, not ours. We host servers for it; we don't sell the game, and we are not associated with Mojang or Microsoft.
4. Plans, payment and cancellation
- Plans are billed monthly in advance, in US dollars, through Stripe. Prices are on the pricing page and are shown before any tax that may apply where you live.
- You can change or cancel your plan at any time from the billing page. Cancelling ends the plan right away. Servers the plan no longer covers are suspended; a suspended server keeps its world and returns, stopped, when a plan covers it again.
- We keep a suspended server and its world for at least 30 days. After that we may delete it; we will email the account's address before we do.
- Refunds are described on the refunds and cancellation page, which is part of these terms.
- If a payment fails, Stripe retries it for a while and your plan keeps working meanwhile. If it keeps failing, the plan ends and the servers are suspended as above.
- We may change prices. A price change for an existing plan takes effect at your next monthly renewal and we email you at least 30 days before it does.
5. Challenges, the editor and the library
- Challenges you build are yours. By publishing one to the library you give us permission to store it, show it with your account name, deliver it to the servers that play it, and let other people play and remix it under these terms. That permission lasts for the versions that servers are still playing, even after you unpublish.
- Remixes must stay traceable. Don't republish someone else's challenge as your own work.
- Names, descriptions, titles and messages in a published challenge must be suitable for all ages: no harassment, hate, sexual content or personal information about others.
- We may hide a challenge from the library if it breaks these rules or the law, or if we receive a credible complaint about it. Servers already playing it keep working, and your draft stays yours.
- The official challenges are ours. You may play and remix them; you may not sell them.
6. Creator credits
- The credit program is described on the creators page: a fixed amount for each qualifying play of a published challenge on another account's server, up to a monthly cap, applied to your invoices while a plan of yours grants servers.
- Credits have no cash value, can't be transferred or paid out, and are applied only through your Stripe customer balance.
- Credits earned through plays that aren't independent (for example between accounts under the same control) may be removed, and the accounts may be closed.
- We may change the rates and the cap. A change applies from the next calendar month and the creators page shows it.
7. Livestream features
If you connect a streaming channel, you authorise us to receive the events your rules use and to store the channel's tokens, sealed, for that purpose. You are responsible for your rules and for what they do to the people on your server. Disconnecting removes the tokens.
8. What you may not do
- Use a server or the service for anything illegal, to harass or threaten people, or to distribute content you don't have the rights to.
- Attack, probe or overload the service, other people's servers or Mojang's services, or try to reach another account's data.
- Resell server access, or run a server as a public commercial service in breach of Mojang's rules for servers.
- Work around a limit, a suspension, the credit rules or the automatic stop.
If you do, we may stop or delete the servers involved and close the account. We will tell you why unless the law prevents it.
9. Our promises, and their limits
- We run the service with care, keep it patched and watch it, but we don't promise it will never be down or lose data. Back up what you can't lose; ask us for a copy of your world and we will send it.
- The service is provided as it is. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect losses, lost profits or lost data, and our total liability for any claim is limited to what you paid us in the three months before the claim.
- Nothing here limits rights that consumer law gives you and that can't be limited by agreement.
10. Ending things
You may close your account at any time by writing to support@octocarbon.com from its address; we delete the account, its servers and their worlds, and keep only what invoicing law requires. We may close an account that breaks these terms, or stop providing the service with at least 30 days' notice by email, in which case we refund any period you paid for and didn't get.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. For changes that matter we email the address on the account at least 14 days before they take effect; small clarifications take effect when we post them with a new date above. Using the service after a change means you accept it.
12. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which Octocarbon is established, and disputes go to its courts, unless consumer law where you live gives you the right to use your local courts. We would much rather sort things out by email first.
